This morning we made a trip to Maine Cycle Warehouse in Auburn for the clutch input shaft and the sprocket cover (broken from Jake dumping the bike) for about $50. I got a price of $250 for a complete front end with disc brake setup and $325 for the whole bike (an 81 kz440 with a lot of rust) that we took those parts off. Still thinking if I should bother with the conversion for right now...I just don't feel right about a drum brake in front. Plus it's pretty gummed up and doesn't spin freely. After that I capped off the top tube (whatever the hell it's called) with some 1/8" steel and then Chad, Justin and I drove out to Kennebunk to meet a guy from NH for a Sportster tank. I popped it on real quick with zip ties to see how it would look. Everyone agreed it was a lot better than they expected. Now I need to find a dry cell battery, a chain long enough for the 6" swingarm extension (probably about 62 links, I've got 50 now), a seat (this is really holding us up), some sort of air filter setup for the carbs, and a clutch cable. Im gonna worry about forward controls and other stuff that isn't necessary to the bike running later on. We would like to see the bike out of Jake's garage in another week or two. Oh yeah I was also told the owner would like his $50 for the bike, haha. I guess I'll have to change the header of this blog soon.
