Documenting the progress of a (nearly) free 1980 Kawasaki KZ440 into a budget bobber.

I've been looking at "bobber" style motorcycles for a few months now. Something about having a totally stripped down, bare bones bike peaked my interest, especially as someone who has never owned a motorcycle.

A good friend of mine, Jake, saw me at the bar one night and said "hey! I found you a bike!" He then explained to me that it was given to him by a friend/neighbor for the price of the new battery he put in it. The bike was a freebie to said friend/neighbor, and he just wanted it gone. Jake rode it home, and actually ended up dumping it in his driveway, doing a little bit of damage - and losing his shoes in the process.

I was told I wouldn't like the bike, but when I first set eyes on it I knew we could make it into something awesome; after all, Jake is an incredibly talented welder/fabricator, his roomate Justin is great with motorcycles, and I was hairbrained enough to think it's a great idea.

This is what we started with.
